It's a foggy, melancholy post-election morning

I had to stay home today, because our fire extinguishers are being inspected. I thought I'd better change the battery in my smoke detector, too. I tried two different new batteries, different brands from different stores, and neither worked. So my smoke detector is dead, I guess. I'm stuck at home until maintenance shows up to replace it.

Hmf.

It has rained and rained and rained. The garden is happy, but I'm getting a little tired of it.

Sunflower

The thing that I thought was a sunflower was clearly not a sunflower, onna counta it had a cone in the center and did not get any bigger. It was a Black-eyed Susan. Duh. I forgot I'd planted them a couple of years ago, and they do look an awful lot like sunflowers when they first form buds and bloom. THIS is an actual sunflower, though. With raindrops.

My cosmos are finally blooming! And such a pretty, deep color, too.

I think this is a young grass spider. It was hanging out on a hosts leaf, after a storm passed through.
